The JobSan Bernardino County
Land Use Services is recruiting for an
Engineering Geologist to perform a range of mining and geology-related work, including inspections, investigations, and evaluations of geologic conditions, as well as the review of technical reports. This position provides professional recommendations related to mining operations and reclamation, erosion and sediment control, slope stability, geologic hazards, and geotechnical reports. Incumbents may provide lead direction or supervision to support staff.
Key duties may include, but are not limited to:- Reviewing geologic, geotechnical, and mining reports for land development and construction projects
- Inspecting operating and idle mines to ensure regulatory compliance
- Evaluating slope stability, erosion and sediment control, grading, drainage, and seismic hazards
- Conducting field investigations and providing recommendations to mitigate geologic risks
- Consulting with engineers, developers, and other agencies on geologic and mining-related issues

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background check, including fingerprinting, prior to appointment.
Physical: Incumbents are required to conduct site visits, which may involve extensive walking over uneven terrain. The position may also involve exposure to various weather conditions.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Geology or Civil Engineering.
-- AND -- Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering, including analyzing geologic and geotechnical conditions and providing recommendations for the planning, design, and construction of engineered structures.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will hold a current, valid California license as a Geologist or Engineer issued by the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. They will have experience evaluating compliance with the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act of 1975 and other environmental regulations, and/or reviewing land use projects for geologic and geotechnical considerations or related fields.
