Position Summary

The Assistant Coordinator, Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is a live-in, graduate-level training position within the Residential Education Office at San Diego State University. This role is designed to prepare emerging student affairs professionals through hands-on experience in residential education, student supervision, community development, and campus engagement. Under the supervision of an Associate Director, the Assistant Coordinator supports the health, safety, and security of residential communities while contributing to inclusive, educational, and supportive living-learning environments. The position plays a critical role in front desk operations, student staff supervision, residential programming, conduct coordination, and emergency response, while advancing the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity’s commitment to equity, belonging, and student success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate approximately 50 student desk assistants while managing payroll and staff development.
• Oversee residential front desk operations to ensure building security, policy compliance, customer service, and accurate documentation.
• Support the overall management of residence halls, including hall openings/closures, reporting, facilities coordination, and emergency response.
• Plan, implement, and support residential, departmental, and campus-wide programs that promote community engagement, leadership, and student success.
• Serve as a Conduct Coordinator and mentor, addressing student behavior concerns, promoting accountability, and connecting students with campus resources.

Position Information

• This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment.
• This position is designated as non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Residential Education Office (REO) is designated as the University department responsible for planning and administering Residential Education programs and services including those in traditional residence halls and apartment complexes. The Residential Education Office serves to enhance student life and success through a comprehensive living-learning experience that provides academic and personal support, contact with faculty, educational programs, community activities, student leadership development and multicultural learning opportunities.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Key Qualifications

• Enrollment in a graduate program focused on student affairs or postsecondary educational leadership while serving in the role.
• Experience working with and supporting a large, diverse student population.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior principles and the ability to apply them in student advising and community settings.
• Ability to advise students individually and in groups, make sound decisions, and follow through on actions that impact programs and services.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and implement programs, events, and student organization or leadership initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and campus or community partners.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and present data and effectively use technology and student engagement systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, engagement platforms, housing and event systems) to support programs and operations.

Compensation:
Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department’s budget and equity guidelines.

• CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 - $5,076/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $4,150/month .
