Job Summary: This position is Electrical Engineering position in an electric distribution utility that performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgement is required on details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
The Electrical Engineer I salary range is
$85,272.51 - $115,118.02 annually, hiring range of
$85,272.51 - $100,195.26, depending on qualifications and experience.
The Electrical Engineer II salary range is
$95,505.28 - $128,932.13 annually, hiring range of
$95,505.28 - $112,218.70, depending on qualifications and experience.

Loveland Water and Power Engineering is looking for a dynamic Electrical Engineer to join our team. You’ll have the ability to cross train and learn other areas of engineering and work with a variety of utility staff including line crews, designers, vendors and the public. Our ideal candidate will have prior utility experience, familiarity with utility infrastructure, an interest in new generation technology and grid automation, and experience with technology software and tools such as AutoCAD, ArcMap, and Milsoft.

Electrical Engineer I: Entry-level professional Electrical Engineering position in an electric distribution utility. Work may involve long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies and weekends. Position is subject to call out during outages with no notice and will also be on-call during certain times of the year.
Essential Functions: - Provide support to the Distribution Design group to facilitate the installation of electric distribution infrastructure.
- Review vendor approval drawings for correctness and compliance with specifications.
- Assists in coordination with outside agencies to perform various constructions activities and install equipment per Electric Utility standards.
- Assists in coordination with other City departments, utilities, and agencies to support complex engineering and construction projects.
- May assist with electric system protection coordination studies to support appropriate application of protective devices.
- Using prescribed methods, performs engineering calculations for specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer in the areas of overcurrent coordination, short circuit analysis, voltage regulation, load flow, power factor correction, lighting design, overvoltage protection, harmonic analysis, and distributed energy resource integration. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Provides support for Distribution System Operators and Line Crews during maintenance operations and restoration of power outages.
- Assists with creation of and reviews power distribution system switching orders to support construction and maintenance operations.
- May assist with the selection of substation equipment for additions and upgrades.
- May assist with the development of material specifications and construction standards.
- Assist with development of project-specific specifications, evaluate proposals, and support creation of requisitions for electrical equipment.
- Incorporate vendor information into design document and integrate into City drawings, shop drawings, schematics, panels to interconnection drawings, etc.

- Attends industry conventions for knowledge gain and sharing.

Electrical Engineer II: This professional Electrical Engineering position performs routine engineering work requiring experience in application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for engineering tasks. Work may involve long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies and weekends. Position is subject to call out during outages with no notice and will also be on-call during certain times of the year.
Essential Functions: - Provides technical support and guidance to the Distribution Design group to facilitate the installation of electric distribution infrastructure.
- Reviews vendor approval drawings for correctness and contract requirements.
- Coordinates with outside agencies to perform various constructions activities and support installation of equipment per Electric Utility standards.
- Coordinates with other City departments, utilities, and agencies to support complex engineering and construction projects.
- May assist with and conduct, under guidance, electric system protection coordination studies and may help to prepare work orders for application of protective devices.
- May assist with and perform engineering studies to optimize performance of the electric distribution system including overcurrent coordination, short circuit analysis, voltage regulation, load flow, power factor correction, lighting design, overvoltage protection, harmonic analysis, and distributed energy resource integration.
- Provides support for Distribution System Operators and Line Crews during maintenance operations and restoration of power outages.
- Creates, reviews, and approves power distribution system switching orders to support construction and maintenance operations.
- Provides technical support for substation design, construction, operation, and maintenance including SCADA.
- Independently develops project-specific specifications, evaluate proposals, and issue requisitions for discipline-related equipment.
- Incorporates vendor information into design document and integrate into City drawings, shop drawings, schematics, panels to interconnection drawings, etc. May develop or support the development or improvement of material specifications and construction standards based on feedback received by the team.
- Provide input and analysis to review and improve cost effectiveness or process improvement.
- Analyzes equipment and system loading to assure reliable and efficient service to customers.
- Evaluates the City's ability to provide service to current and potential electric customers.

Education and/or formal training: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience: Electrical Engineer I is an entry level position.
Electrical Engineer II: Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in medium or high voltage power systems demonstrating progressively more responsibility in assignments. Prior utility experience or familiarity with utility infrastructure preferred.
Licensure and/or certifications: - Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Engineer in Training designation preferred.
Material and equipment directly used: Standard office equipment, computer, telephone, cellular telephone, motor vehicle, 2-way radio,
Working environment/physical activities: - Work is performed both inside and outside with occasional outside work in inclement weather and around excessive noise from machines or equipment.
- Moderate physical activity required by moving, positioning and handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Work may include pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and reaching to assist others in performing job.
- Working environment may include working in confined spaces, below ground installations, above ground ladders, aerial devices or equipment at various heights, working around energized equipment, (50 volts to 115kV).

Job Level and Management Expectations: - There are no supervisory or management expectations for either Electrical Engineer I or II.
Knowledge, Skills. and Abilities: - Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with others.
- Ability to solve complex power engineering problems.
- Independent decision-making ability and assumption of personal accountability in design and application.
- Intermediate level skills in MS Word and Excel.
- Intermediate level skills in AutoCAD or Micro station, power flow modeling software, or other analytical software.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards associated with electrical power (e.g. National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, applicable IEEE Standards).
- Ability to perform common economic analyses.
- Intermediate project management skills.
- Competent technical writing skills.
- Ability to review and compare bid proposals
