The City of Fort Worth's Log Cabin Village is looking for a fun and engaging Historical Interpreter to bring history to life for museum visitors from all over the world! Historical interpreters relay history and demonstrate 19th century style crafts to an average of 27,000 visitors of all ages every year. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer skills, a passion for learning, and demonstrated experience in the delivery of educational programming.
Log Cabin Village is a 19th century living history museum dedicated to the preservation of frontier Texas. Owned and operated by the City of Fort Worth's Park & Recreation Department, Log Cabin Village aspires to build connections to 19th century Texas by providing educational opportunities and sensory experiences that are engaging, accurate, and as authentic as possible.
- Year-round outdoor work in non-climate-controlled conditions
Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma and no experience required
Preferred Qualifications: - Heavy public contact in educational and/or museum settings
- Working knowledge of 19th century crafts/skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Two (2) years of customer service experience
- Dressing in 19th century style clothing
- May also require extensive walking around the 2.5-acre site
The Log Cabin Village Historical Interpreter job responsibilities include: - Provide exceptional customer service to group tour and walk-in visitors and coworkers
- Utilize effective teamwork to achieve goals
- Ensure assigned areas are clean and secure (sweeping, cleaning glass, locking doors)
- Make items to be sold in museum store
- Assist with special family events and classes
- Develop and teach classes as time and interest allows
- Heavy public contact
- Perform other related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL DEMANDS Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting, depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.
Sedentary Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
