Description

Overview

The Engineer II coordinates the review and approval or disapproval of land development proposals including, but not limited to, plats, utility plans, stormwater quality management plans, infrastructure design plan set, and building permits for conformance with city standards. They also address general customer inquiries related to land development engineering whether in person or via phone or email.

Bonus: $5,000 initial sign on bonus (external candidates only)

Responsibilities

• Review and coordinate the processing of moderately difficult to difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, ordinances, and city standards

• Assist in the evaluation of rezonings, site plans, variances, infrastructure, and other proposals

• Assist in resolving citizen and customer issues related to engineering requirements and/or reviews

• Prepare and present detailed reports on development proposals to owners/developers, engineers, architect, surveyors, etc. concerning the engineering plan review

• Prepare memos and PowerPoint presentations for variances that go to a board or commission

• Effectively communicate in person and by phone or email

• Accurately convey relevant project details to decision makers

• Interact with various City Departments, owners/developers, engineers, architects, surveyors, and other agencies to provide planning, project review, and execution of development projects

• Review and approve plans and documents

• Work with engineers, construction contractors, and city inspectors to define and process addendums as needed throughout construction

• Interpret maps, plats, and construction drawings

• Perform other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree

• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required at time of hire

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
