Summary: Duluth Public Schools is seeking an individual who under limited supervision, provides office support involving a wide range of work activities within an assigned work area. Work responsibilities may be within a large department or a specialized office or school. The incumbent receives only limited work instructions and operates with a significant degree of discretion. This designation is the second level within the Office Support Specialist job classification series. The nature and difficulty of work performed at this level is greater than that of the entry Office Support Specialist designation and involves a greater diversity of work activities. The work complexity requires substantial judgment and analytical ability. Work projects may be accomplished by obtaining the assistance of other support staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent and two years of previous experience in broad staff support.
Knowledge Requirements: - Excellent organizational & computer skills are top priority: Be able to use Guidance/Career Center website links and MCIS and to teach others how to use internet tools. Research the internet for topics of interest to Career Center goals. Update website weekly.
- Multi-tasking skills and ability to work independently without supervision:
- Dependable and flexible - Ability to work daily Monday through Thursday (generally, work schedule comprises two days or four mornings per week) but flexible for days/evenings we have to present.
- Patience/listening skills - Ability to connect with teenagers - comfortable talking with wide range of student personalities/backgrounds.
- Creative/artistic skills: Be able to design eye-catching, organized bulletin boards that will be a viable source of communication to students.
- Public speaking skills: Be able to give class lectures to students and parents.
- Must be able to communicate well and share responsibilities with Guidance Staff.
Skill Requirements:
- Organizing and prioritizing work
- Communications, both oral and in writing
- Maintaining confidentiality with sensitive information, issues and situations
- Operating various office equipment
- Implementing and maintaining complex office files and records
- Applying and administering various district operating policies and procedures
- Utilizing effective judgment and protocol in handling sensitive situations and conflicts within established policies and procedures

Retirement - The District contributes 7.25% of your total salary in the Public Employees Retirement Association) pension plan.
