This position is housed within the Lead Hazard Reduction Unit of the Bureau of Environmental Epidemiology and plays a key role in advancing lead exposure prevention efforts across Missouri. The unit oversees programs that support lead hazard reduction in schools, early childhood centers, childcare facilities, and residential homes. The individual in this role will serve as the primary technical support for lead abatement projects and be responsible for ensuring compliance with various state and federally funded grant programs.
- This position provides technical and scientific assistance for two exciting programs within DHSS: the brand new HUD Capacity Building Grant and the Get the Lead Out of Schools Program (GLOS).
- Provide technical assistance to homeowners and contractors applying for participation in the program.
- Conduct site visits to applicant properties to perform lead-based paint inspection and risk assessments.
- Prepare reports, scopes of work, and drafting site specific work contracts; this includes lead hazard interim controls and abatement work plans for bidding purposes.
- Conduct regular inspections of ongoing projects and perform clearance inspections.
- Document project status to ensure conformance with contract agreement and all pertinent regulations.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with program partners and stakeholders, providing technical support and regulatory guidance to lead abatement contractors.
- Assist with the Bureau's community outreach initiatives, particularly in support of the HUD, GLOS and WIIN grant programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Obtain and maintain a Missouri Lead Risk Assessor and Lead Abatement Supervisor license within six months of hire.
- Bachelor's degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
- Experience in lead, asbestos, other environmental contaminants, or knowledge of residential building or abatement techniques.
- A high level of commitment, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in data management systems/software.
