Description

The Fuels Crew Squad Boss (SO) is responsible for assisting the Fuels Crew Module Leader in the operational aspects of the Wildland Fire Crew. The Fuels Crew Squad Boss serves as a trained and experienced member of a wildland fuels crew and provides guidance and mentoring to crew members in executing fire management activities in fire preparedness, fuels management and risk mitigation projects, wildfire prevention, fire suppression, monitoring, and post fire activities. The Fuels Crew Squad Boss is engaged in fighting forest, range, and other wildland fires, participating in prescribed fire operations and completing a variety of wildfire risk mitigation project work.

Description:

Starting Pay: $56,598.93 - $63,702.59

Top Out Pay After Years of Service: $84,898.39

The Fuels Crew Squad Boss is a non-supervisory position and a key member of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Management Program team that will report directly to the Fuels Crew Module Lead. This position is one of 2 squad bosses on a fuels crew and is responsible for assisting the Fuels Crew Module lead in daily operations for risk mitigation project work, incident response, maintenance of equipment, tools and vehicles and training of crew members. The program will have two fuels crews and will operate an A and B shift to allow for 7-day coverage. This is an in-person (not remote) hourly based position that will work a 4-10 schedule (either Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday) but also expected to be available outside the normal work week for incident support. During major incidents, this position is eligible for overtime outside the normal work week as well as opportunities for single resource and/or crew assignments outside the county or state based on county fire risk. The ideal candidate works well with moderate oversight or direction but is also self-motivated and shows initiative to achieve program goals.
