Description

The Fuels Module Leader (SO) is responsible for assisting the Fire Management Officer (FMO) in coordinating the activities of the Fuels Crew. The Fuels Crew Module Leader supervises the Fuels Crew in day-to-day tasks, risk mitigation project work, wildfire response operations and maintains safety first as the foundation for all aspects of wildland fire management activities. Directs and supervises the fuels crew in performing a variety of mitigation, wildfire suppression and fire management duties. The Fuels Crew Module Leader may personally engage in fighting forest, range, and other wildland fires and participating in prescribed fire operations.

Starting Pay: $30.57 - $38.22

Top Out Pay After Years of Service: $45.86

The Fuels Crew Module Lead is a supervisory position and a key member of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Management Program team that will report directly to a Fire Management Officer. This position will be responsible for the daily operations of a fuels mitigation crew including risk mitigation project work scheduling and oversight, maintaining crew readiness for incident response, maintaining equipment and vehicles assigned for project work, providing crew direction and tactics when on assignment and general supervisory duties. Some project planning/scheduling and minor budget oversight is expected. The program will have two fuels crews and will operate an A and B shift to allow for 7-day coverage. This is an in-person (not remote) hourly based position that will

work a 4-10 schedule (either Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday) but also expected to be available outside the normal work week for incident support. During major incidents, this position is eligible for overtime outside the normal work week as well as opportunities for single resource and/or crew assignments outside the county or state based on county fire risk. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated person who can work independently with little oversight or direction to achieve program goals but also someone that has strong supervisory skills and interacts well with a team and a variety of internal and external partners.
