TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the guidance of the Davis Mountains State Park Superintendent, this position is responsible for highly advanced (senior-level) park/historic site management work including the preservation, protection, operation and maintenance of Indian Lodge and Black Bear Restaurant. Responsibilities include but are not limited to oversight of restaurant food and beverage operations; oversight of hotel lodging and maintenance operations; sales & marketing; hiring, recruiting and training staff; customer service and customer experience; revenue generation; and direct supervision of restaurant and lodge-based team leaders. Works with the Maintenance Supervisor of the State Park complex to relay and address maintenance needs, develops maintenance plans and provides oversight for maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds and equipment. Responsible for cultural and natural resource stewardship; financial management, planning and monitoring of budgets; revenue management, visitation forecasting; human resources management; security, loss prevention and safety programs; concession management; and purchasing. Promotes employee development, teamwork and morale. Organizes special events, community outreach, volunteer development and coordination of partnerships. Leads team to fulfill the TPWD Mission and in a manner that embodies the department's core values. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for independent judgement and decision making. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

NOTE : Salary range is limited to commissioned officers in the park management track prior to 9/1/2020. State Park Law Enforcement career ladder eligibility requirements must be met to advance from the base rate-of-pay.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Experience :

Six years of experience in an overnight camping park, hotel, motel, lodge or closely related hospitality services.

Three years of experience as a supervisor or a team leader.

NOTE : Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 6 months of employment, a Food Service Operations Manager certification issued by the Texas Department of Health.

NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and certification.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

Education :

One additional year of the required experience in an overnight camping park, hotel, motel, lodge or closely related hospitality services may substitute for 30 semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Business Management or closely related field.

Experience :

Experience in the hospitality industry to include management of a hotel, lodge, campground or overnight park or similar field.

Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Experience with marketing and outreach.

Experience with restaurant management.

Experience in hiring, recruiting and training staff.

Licensure :

Current Certified Concession Manager (CCM) and/or an Executive Concession Manager (ECM) certification issued by the National Association of Concessionaires (NAC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of all phases of park and/or hotel operations, administration and hospitality service.

Ability to coordinate maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment to ensure upkeep of grounds.

Ability to identify, initiate and manage minor and capital projects.

Ability to conduct activities in accordance with TPWD work rules and safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work at a public historic hotel-type facility (with restaurant) located within a State Park.

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Required to work overtime as needed, which may include any shift within a 24-hour period if necessary.

Required to periodically assist with evening patrols of park and respond to emergency and on-call situations.

Required to operate a State vehicle.

Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays.

Required to live on-site in State housing with a monthly deduction of $150.30. Housing rates are established by TPWD policy, calculated using federal guidelines, and may change according to market value.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
