DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

District K is a diverse and dynamic community in the City of Houston that includes the neighborhoods of Brays Oaks, Fort Bend Houston, Hiram Clarke, and parts of Westbury. Under the leadership of Council Member Martha Castex-Tatum, the district prioritizes responsive service, civic engagement, and collaborative problem-solving to improve the quality of life for all residents.

Position Summary:

The Director of Constituent Services serves as the primary liaison between the District K office and its residents. This role is vital to ensuring that constituent concerns are addressed efficiently and compassionately. The Director will lead community engagement efforts, manage constituent casework, and coordinate interdepartmental responses to neighborhood needs, all while reflecting the values and vision of Council Member Castex-Tatum.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the first point of contact for residents needing assistance with city services or addressing community concerns.

• Manage and track all constituent inquiries and casework from initial contact to resolution.

• Maintain a responsive and organized communication system, including call logs, emails, and service requests.

• Coordinate with City of Houston departments (e.g., Public Works, Solid Waste, HPD, etc.) to resolve constituent issues efficiently.

• Attend community meetings, civic club events, and neighborhood association gatherings on behalf of the council office.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders and neighborhood leaders.

• Provide weekly reports to Council Member Castex-Tatum on constituent trends and casework resolution status.

• Help identify systemic issues within the district and propose solutions or policy improvements.

• Assist with planning and executing community events and outreach initiatives.

• Support crisis response and recovery coordination in the event of emergencies or natural disasters.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE:
One year of administrative experience is required.

SUBSTITUTION: College education may substitute for experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

• Minimum 4 years of experience in public service, community relations, or constituent services.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to community-focused service.

• Strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

• Familiarity with City of Houston services, departments, and procedures is a plus.

• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for community events.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and constituent management tools.
