This position will be located at Missouri Geological Survey-Water Resources Center, Robert E. Meyers Building, 1251 Gale Drive, Rolla, MO 65401. Monday-Friday standard business work week.

This will be a geologist or hydrologist position managing geodatabases concerning water well construction, subsurface geology, and water quality. This position specifically assists with data related to public drinking water wells. You will gain knowledge of Missouri’s geology, learn the differences in water quality and availability throughout the state, build and maintain ESRI geodatabases, and aid in communications with external clients and colleagues within the Department of Natural Resources. You may also perform office investigations of well sites for geologic and hydrologic characteristics. Additional opportunities to log well cuttings and insoluble residues and analyze pump tests. Expect to be in the office investigating complex data for most of the time.

• Master various software packages including but not limited to: AQTESOLV, ESRI ArcPro, AquaVeo-ArcHydro Groundwater toolset, and Microsoft Office
• Coordinating with multiple DNR entities, the drilling industry, engineers, and the public
• Maintain existing public water supply (PWS) geodatabases, including the State’s Safe Drinking Water Inventory System (SDWIS)
• Develop a working knowledge of the community and non-community PWS well design standards and the Missouri Well Construction Rules
• Perform extensive research of various mediums such as paper files, microfiche, databases, etc. to locate historic well information

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

• Hydrology: Working knowledge of hydrologic principles and their applications.
• Geology: Working knowledge of geologic principles and their applications.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/geology, or hydrology and 0-4 years of experience in environmental geology, hydrology, geohydrology, stratigraphy, and GIS

Salary:

$45,000-$62,000 per Year
