There is currently one (1) vacant position assigned to the West County Main Detention Facility, located in Richmond, CA. This is a new management position for the West County Reentry, Housing, and Treatment program (WRTH), located at West County Detention Facility.

Health Services offers a complete array of patient-centered health care services delivered to the people of Contra Costa. It is important to serve the health care needs of all county residents. For more than a century, Contra Costa has been providing quality health care services to the entire community and patients know they are receiving excellent medical care.

The NPM will oversee nursing and ancillary staff working at the West County Reentry Housing, and Treatment Program (WRTH) detention facility in collaboration with the Sheriff Department. The WRTH serves as a facility for arrested individuals. The NPM will assess the nursing workflow and implement necessary changes to improve healthcare for these individuals. Nursing staff are assigned to provide healthcare services in the Detention areas. The incumbent will also perform staff evaluations and oversee staffing. The NPM will work with the hiring team to interview and hire new staff and work closely with both the West County Detention NPM, and the Martinez Detention NPM and will supervise Lead and Charge Nurses and respond to code 3 medical calls.

The incumbent plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the education and professional development needs of the nursing and ancillary staff assigned to WRTH. The incumbent is responsible for designing and implementing policies to achieve and maintain goals that ensure the delivery of safe quality care and service. Other responsibilities include being an integral part of the departments ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Programs along with the department’s educational plan. This position may include a two week On-Call period. The incumbent will report to the Director of Detention Nursing.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

License and Certification Required: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider).

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in nursing, hospital or health care administration, or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university. For Professional Development assignments, a bachelor’s degree in Education may be substituted for the BSN.

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience, or its equivalent, as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, community mental health system, or correctional medical setting, two (2) years of which must have been as a Charge Nurse or in a similar supervisory capacity. One (1) year of the required experience must have been in the specialty area of the assigned program.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Specific qualifications are required beyond those specified above for an assignment in Detention Services: Possession of a Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) credential issued by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care

Employees may also be required to complete additional unit-specific training and certifications during the first year of employment. All certifications must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Selection Process

2. Training and Experience Questionnaire: Candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire at the time of filing. The responses to the training and experience questions on the supplemental questionnaire will be used to evaluate candidates r elevant education, training and/or experience as it relates to this classification. (Weighted 100%)

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
