What You'll Be DoingThe
Program Integrity Unit ensures the integrity of agency programs and maintains accountability in expenditure of public funds through the prevention, detection, and investigation of fraud and abuse by consumers and service providers. This includes the establishment of claims and recovery of erroneously issued benefits. We are currently seeking a
Senior Accounting Technician to join this dynamic team!
The primary job duties of the
Senior Accounting Technician include:
- Overseeing the posting of revenue in the state and local county accounting system
- Preparing daily bank deposits, researching and filing estate claims, updating bankruptcy claims, detecting and reconciling discrepancies in financial records, and verify billings and P-card transactions
- Disbursing monthly reports
- Assisting with state and federal audits

Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - High school diploma or GED
- Three years of job-related experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
- Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Three years or more of job-related experience in government accounting
- Experience in Advantage Financials, NC FAST, Economic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Edge, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Lotus Notes
- Spanish language skills are preferred
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- General knowledge of Economic Benefit Programs (Food and Nutrition, Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- General knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages (Advantage Financials, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Excel, NC Fast, and EBT Edge)
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws and regulations pertaining to financial records
- Expertise in researching, identifying, and resolving discrepancies in accounting transactions
- Ability to build, establish and maintain positive productive relationship with peers, colleagues, law enforcement and consumers
- Ability to prioritize work and work independently
- Demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and manage change
- Ability to develop complex accounting worksheets and reports
