job descriptionThe Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) is seeking to fill (1) Architect position via an Emergency Appointment in the Permit and Engineering Bureau, Zoning Division. Architects manage the daily plan check operation for the Zoning Review Section. They work closely with the Mayor’s office, Council offices, and other departments to ensure the success of early zoning review for housing projects. They also manage processes to assist building permit applicants at various stages of the entitlement and permitting process. Streamline zoning review at the beginning of the development review process provides applicants with better direction and relevant information. Architects are responsible for responding to difficult problems from contractors, engineers, and the general public; preparing narrative and statistical reports regarding the service levels provided by the Zoning Review Section; preparing correspondence regarding Department policies, procedures, and code enforcement. Make oral presentations to community groups and represent the Department at various other public meetings, as needed.

Emergency AppointmentAn emergency appointment is not a regular appointment. It is a temporary appointment which does not require that you successfully compete in the Civil Service examination process. The appointment may not exceed one year and must be terminated immediately when a regular appointment can be made from an eligible list. No emergency appointment can exceed one year. (City Charter Section 1013).
