Several full-time positions available with the Neighborhoods & Community Services Department, Preservation Division located at 414 East 12th Street
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Conducts investigations and inspections of private commercial and residential properties, and vacant lots to determine the nature and scope of environmental and housing problems, develop the plan of action needed.
- Researches compiles and submits detailed written reports, makes recommendations on investigations, and implements plan of action to completely utilize the legal system to abate the code violations.
- Researches and investigates property ownership through public records, including recorder of deeds, probate cases, death certificates, legal descriptions/boundaries and corporate records.
- Identifies responsible party when owned by a business entity to delineate fiscal responsibility relationships of property owners.
- Utilizes skip-tracing techniques to obtain personal identifiers and locate property owners issuing summonses for court prosecution.
- Interprets investigative findings with regard to applicable ordinances.
- Orders corrective measures to be taken.
- Provides investigation findings and submits relevant documents to be used in support of testimony and legal actions initiated by the City.
- Follows recommendations and Instructions of the City Attorney to facilitate prosecution of Property Maintenance Code and Nuisance Code enforcement cases.
- Testifies in Housing Court, Circuit Court, and administrative hearings on City's behalf regarding Property Maintenance Code and Nuisance Code enforcement cases.
- Performs extensive research to determine most culpable party in regards to property owners, occupants, Partnerships, Corporations, Limited Liability Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships, etc., and must also obtain personal identifiers to pursue various legal avenues
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 2 years experience in planning/zoning; nuisance housing; building construction or inspection; health, safety, codes and ordinances inspection or investigations; neighborhood/community assistance, code enforcement, social services, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO. Must possess or be eligible to obtain required police commission from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
