This position will be located at the St. Louis Regional Office: 7545 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63125.
You will be assisting the Water Pollution Control Unit with protecting public health and the environment through water regulations. You will be provided a rewarding opportunity that will contribute to your long-term goals, stimulate career growth, and develop your professional network. You will join a tight-knit office and work alongside a diverse team of inspectors and engineers to tackle local environmental issues, gaining the following professional experience:
- Knowledge of water pollution, stormwater control, Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) programs, and NPDES permits
- Participation in a variety of formal and informal water training programs offered by the department
- Opportunity to meet with regulatory agency personnel and regulated facilities in the St. Louis region
- If an intern is in an engineering program, the intern will also receive engineering experience hours while working with a Professional Engineer
- Assist the Wastewater Unit at the St. Louis Regional office
- Participate in inspections, investigations, and compliance assistance activities of water facilities around St. Louis, Missouri via site visits, phone calls, email correspondence, and teleconferencing
- Monitor and facilitate the follow-up actions requested by water section program analysts
- Provide customer service and compliance assistance to stakeholders and members of the public with phone calls and email
- Provide support for education outreach events around St. Louis, Missouri
- Prepare reports with data tables and graphs for inspections and special projects in the Water Section
- Perform other outdoor fieldwork and miscellaneous duties as necessary or as assigned by supervisor
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
- Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Environmental Science: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
- Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
- Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate college program
- Possess a current driver’s license

Salary:
$17.77 per Hour
