Description
Duties Description The Trades Generalist at Roberto Clemente State Park will be responsible for a trade in one of the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electric, motor equipment, small engine repair, or masonry. The Trades Generaliust will perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. Incumbents must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in their respective trade(s). In addition, the Trades Generalist will:
• Plan and lay out projects, supervise and train others as well as read and interpret plans.
• Direct facility maintenance, supervising lower-level staff, and overseeing operations of aquatics area filter rooms, chemicals, and pumps.
• May be responsible for directing park operations in the absence of park management.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term ad condition of employment.
• The schedule is 40 hours per week, with pass days to be determined. Weekend, evening, and holiday shifts may also be required.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
• Candidates able to supervise others and to act independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Must have the ability to understand and carry out instructions, including in writing.
• Must have a knowledge of standard safety practices.
• Candidate is expected to periodically support the New York City Region’s park and operational needs, including special assignments at other parks and emergency management tasks as needed.
DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
