DescriptionThe Fremont Police Department is recruiting for the position of Police Officer (Lateral).

Hiring Bonus Up to 10 Lateral Police Officers hired into the classification of Police Officer for the City of Fremont will qualify for a new hire bonus of up to
$100,000 .
- $10,000: Paid on the first paycheck following the Police Officer’s hire with the City of Fremont.
- $10,000: Paid upon completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.
- $15,000: Paid upon successful completion of probation.
- $15,000: Paid upon one (1) full year following completion of probation.
- $15,000: Paid upon two (2) years following completion of probation.
- $15,000: Paid upon three (3) years following completion of probation.
- $20,000: Paid for completing the final six (6) months2 (months 55-60) for a total of five (5) years of service.
To qualify, new hires must meet the four requirements below. Must not have prior work history with the City of Fremont.
Meet the definition of Lateral Police Officer (please see Minimum Requirements below).
File their application for employment on or after the City Council adoption of this letter agreement, and
Begin employment with the City of Fremont before the tenth Lateral Officer Hiring Bonus is awarded under this program.
Minimum Qualifications - Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
- Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Be at least 20.5 years of age at time of filing and 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Possession of a Class C California driver’s license at the time of appointment with a satisfactory driving record.
- Currently employed as a police officer or deputy sheriff by a California law enforcement agency.
- Successful completion of a POST-approved field training or jail training program.

Selection Process The process may include individual and/or panel interviews, professional reference checks, fingerprint check for criminal history, pre-employment medical exam and other related components.
