Major Duties The Postdoctoral Research Associate will lead research efforts into Metal Additive Manufacturing and work closely with multidisciplinary teams of specialized scientists and engineers with extensive experience to fundamentally alter the manufacturing methods to develop the super alloys by nanoparticles self-dispersion, generatively design, additively manufacture, nondestructively inspect, and functionally deliver the heat exchanger into aerospace applications. This position will work under the guidance of the ARCS Associate Director Prof. Bingbing Li and collaborate closely with partners NASA JPL, UCLA, Honeywell Aerospace, Castheon, ASTM AM CoE, SimInsights, and CSUN undergraduate and graduate students for the NASA MUREP High Volume project “Consortium for High-volume Additive Manufacturing of Aerospace Heat Exchanger and Talent Development”. Additionally, this position will participate in academic and industry mentorship, with the goal of transitioning to a faculty position at CSUN or a R&D position at JPL or Honeywell Aerospace.
Qualifications Required:
• Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, material science and engineering, industrial engineering, or other relevant fields.
Preferred:
• Experience with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) or Selective Laser Melting technology.
• Experience with super alloys through metal matrix composites (MMCs) or metal matrix
nanocomposites (MMNCs).
• Experience with generative design, NDE inspection of AM production.
• Strong written communication, especially as it relates to publishing papers, and developing
competitive grant proposals.
• Eagerness to learn and a willingness to accept constructive criticism and thrive in a
collaborative environment.
• Ability to work within highly interdisciplinary, technical settings.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).
The anticipated hiring range:
$66,560 -$70,000 annually Full Pay Range:
