Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted only from those applicants who clearly and completely demonstrate on the
COMPLETED City application and supplemental questionnaire that they have:
POLICE ACADEMY GRADUATE: - Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited California POST certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy; OR
- Certificate of Completion from an accredited California POST Certified Law Enforcement Academy awarded or renewed within the previous consecutive three (3) years at time of application.
LATERAL - POLICE OFFICER: - A current full-time Police Officer for at least one continuous year in the State of California as a Peace Officer, as defined by California Penal Code Section 830, 830.1, and 830.2; AND
- Possess a California POST Basic Certificate.
- Out of State Applicants: Currently employed full-time for at least one continuous year of sworn general law enforcement experience AND possession of the Basic Course Waiver (BCW) from the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).
All applicants must meet the following:- AGE: Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment date.
- EDUCATION: California POST requires possession of U.S. high school diploma or GED.
- CERTIFICATE: POST Certificate must be valid at the time of appointment date.
- LICENSE: Must possess a valid Class "C" California driver's license.
- PHYSICAL CONDITION/VISION: Good physical condition. Vision and physical conditions must satisfy established POST Medical Standards as provided on their website: POST - Medical Screening Manual .
- CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship prior to application for employment in compliance with Government Code Section 1031.
- FELONY: Record must be free from any felony convictions.

VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.
INSURANCE: The City and the employee share contributions for premiums for health insurance coverage. The City provides life insurance benefits based on bargaining unit. Visit the City's Employee Benefit website for detailed information (rates and plan information).
RETIREMENT: Benefits are provided by the City's participation in the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS). 2% @ 62 for new hire Miscellaneous and 2.7% @ 57 for Safety (Fire & Police). Visit the City's Retirement websitefor additional information.

$5,939.44 - $7,234.24 Monthly
