Summary

Policy Analyst

The New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City's economy stronger. The Office of the Chief of Staff to the Mayor is responsible for the full suite of citywide and agency administrative operations to include scheduling and preparing the Mayor for his daily briefings, meetings, and events. The Policy Analyst will work within the Policy and Planning team, which focuses on the development, vetting, announcement, and implementation of policy, budgetary, and long-term planning matters across all policy topics.

The Policy Analyst is a key member of the Office of the Chief of Staff who supports the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor and the Policy and Planning team in ensuring strategic, operational, and political alignment across City Hall and the administration. Reporting to the Special Advisor for Policy and Planning, the Policy Analyst will:

  • Develop and refine briefings and memos for Executive decision-making & high-level policymaking by gathering relevant information and data from senior City Hall staff and agency leadership.
  • Assist in the development, tracking, and advancement of processes to facilitate Executive decision-making.
  • Provide project management support on inter-agency policy topics.
  • Assist with coordination of internal operations & cross-issue workflows within the Office of the Chief of Staff.
  • Support the public-facing rollout and announcement of key Mayoral policy priorities.
  • Assist with coordination, as needed, between the Office of the Chief of Staff and Intergovernmental Affairs, City Legislative Affairs, State Legislative Affairs, and Federal Legislative Affairs to develop legislative solutions to policy challenges.
  • Support inter-agency coordination and cross-City Hall team collaboration to ensure project and program delivery.

You have an interest in and curiosity about policy issues related to the City of New York and the provision of services across its five boroughs. You pay attention to detail and have excellent organization and time-management skills, including the ability to deliver on multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic environment. You have experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and can effectively interact with people and partners across all levels within an organization, including senior leaders. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You have demonstrated exemplary levels of integrity, ethics, and discretion. You are an independent problem-solver with the ability to learn new subjects quickly. You are skilled at using data to derive and convey insights.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience in City government, urban planning, policy, or operations.

Preferred Skills:

  • You are familiar with budgets, program implementation, project management structures, and policy analysis.

Residency Requirement:

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
