The Position:
The City of Palo Alto is seeking a strong, creative, and dynamic leader in the role of Teen Center Staff at the Mitchell Park Community Teen Center and Bryant Street Community Center. Through targeted enrichment programing, the Teen Center Staff helps to provide the space, resources, support, and opportunities for the Palo Alto youth to be empowered and thrive within their schools, homes, and communities.

Tentative Schedule: Monday through Friday 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and occasional weekend work.
Essential Duties
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teen Center Counselor Responsibilities:
Maintain a positive, safe, and productive work environment by ensuring that the Teen Center and any other spaces used are neat, organized, and foster physical and emotional safety for all participants.
Instruct participants on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
Review program work plans with Teen Center Site Director and Youth and Teen Services Coordinator for effective program implementation.
Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, participants, and staff.
Occasionally facilitate life skills and team-building activities for participants.
Plan and lead organized enrichment activities for youth to develop and strengthen their academic, physical, and social skills.
As needed, differentiate activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment.?? Complete required forms, reports, and evaluations.
Participate in staff meetings and on-going training opportunities.
Comply with all City of Palo Alto policies and procedures.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Lead, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Teen Counselor I in their performance.
May be required to create and finalized program schedules with Teen Services Coordinator
Preferred Qualification:
Sufficient education, training, and/or work experience to demonstrate the possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:
- At least one year's experience working with children in a formal setting.
- Demonstrated skill in youth instruction.
- At least one year of leadership experience.

Position may be filled within the series of Rec Leader I/II based on experience. More than one position may be filled from this posting.
This is an SEIU Hourly position with limited benefits that is budgeted to not exceed 999 hours per fiscal year (July - June). The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.
In lieu of providing a medical plan, the City offers a medical stipend of $3.48.

City Government
Palo Alto is a full-service charter city with a council-manager form of government. The seven-member City Council is elected at large, and the City Council annually selects the Mayor and Vice Mayor from among its members. The Mayor and City Council appoint the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, and City Auditor. The City Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the City. Palo Alto is organized into 15 departments/offices with 1,093.10 authorized positions in FY 2025. There is also a FY 2025 capital budget of $316.2 million.
