Position Summary:
Performs routine clerical and clinical tasks within Imaging Services, assisting physicians and other licensed providers to provide cost-effective, quality patient care.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
The equivalent of graduation from a recognized medical assistant program and one (1) year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA). Office Lab Assistant License within sixty (60) days of hire, except for incumbents assigned to the Outpatient Ortho Clinic and Imaging Services.

Additional Position Requirements

Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following:

• A minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the past five (5) years), documented MA experience in a specialty area such as Radiology, Cardiology etc.
  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; operation of general office equipment; radiation safety; imaging exams, interventional procedures; basic medical terminology; basic mathematics; medical equipment; and universal precautions; knowledge of referral processing, scheduling, data entry; knowledge of software applications; department and hospital safety practices; patient rights; infection control practices and policies; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.

Skill in:
Procuring specimens; imaging exams; protocols for radiation safety; vaccination activities; injection and aseptic technique; performing noninvasive procedures ie EKG; processing Point of Care testing; skill in supporting clinical team and patients to achieve annual wellness care and transitional care documentation; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, including stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, and strength to examine and treat varied patients, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
