Job Summary

Mohave County Public Works- Parks Division is looking to fill an E.R.A.C.E. Officer position.

We are located at 3715 Sunshine Dr., Kingman, AZ.

Our Mission

To prevent illegal (Wildcat Dumping) by enforcement, education, and the pursuit of the Criminal Offenders. We accomplish this Mission by investigating the criminal complaints, educating the public, and with the assistance from the many Community volunteer groups, Businesses, and Organizations throughout Mohave County. Public Works are consistently working to improve the quality of life here in beautiful Mohave County. About the position

• Work 4 ten-hour shifts.
  
• Maybe required to work weekends and holidays.
• Schedule does involve being "On-Call" which would include weekends and holidays.
  

• Must possess and maintain firearm proficiency.
  
• Be required to successfully pass drug screen post offer, complete psychological, polygraph, health-related, and physical agility testing appropriate to law enforcement individuals.
  
• AZPOST certification is required for the position. If holding a lapsed or out-of-state certification, must obtain a current/active AZPOST certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Must be able to travel throughout different county locations. Working conditions would include but not limited to:

• Work does require traveling throughout the county while operating and handling a motor vehicle in adverse traffic conditions, weather, terrain, and high-speed driving.
• Perform moderate to strenuous manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions including extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures.
• Involves exposure to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease, hazardous materials, and noise of equipment.
• The ability to frequently be able to lift 25lbs up to 75lbs or more while operating heavy equipment.
• This position requires an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, sitting, c limbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and bending are sometimes required.

Compensation
Salary Range 15 Steps 1-8 $23.26 - $28.61/hr.

Essential Job Functions

• Responds to and participates in activities involved in implementing and coordinating a comprehensive county-wide environmental rural area clean-up enforcement program.
• Provides assistance in conducting a law enforcement program involving investigations, apprehending violators, inter agency coordination, education and other law enforcement and program activities.
• Analyzes activity and violation problems occurring in unincorporated areas of Mohave County as it relates to illegal and wildcat dumping.
• Develops information through fact finding by collecting on-site evidence, interviewing witnesses or suspects, following up on leads, searching records, conducting surveillance, observing suspicious activity and through information provided by informants, concerned citizens and Federal, State, and local officials.
• Assists and requests assistance from agencies with conducting of law enforcement activities, maintaining, and establishing liaisons with local Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies and their personnel.
• Prepares investigation reports and maintains accurate, up-to-date information by documenting findings and facts, obtaining witness statements and copies of official records, and including pertinent correspondence, maps, historical information, exhibits, and photographs.
• Determines laws violated. Makes record checks with State and local agencies to determine if violator has any prior violations. Issues citations or makes arrests and files criminal complaints with the Court. Books suspects when appropriate.
• Ensures program activities are consistent with Federal, state and local policies and procedures for carrying out law enforcement activities.
• Prepares applications for environmental programs and funding.
• Coordinates and presents programs for the education and training of the public about the illegality and detriments of wildcat dump sites.
• Confers with attorneys outlining requirements for investigation and keeps attorneys apprised of the investigations with current, accurate information.
• Assists attorneys in the preparation of cases for trial based on information obtained and determining additional information required.
• Testifies in court on the results of investigation.
• Assists local and out-of-state agencies on environmental investigations.
• Keeps apprised of associated environmental laws and legislation.
• Compiles information and performs research for special projects as assigned. Develops and implements automated systems for tracking progress and documenting status of project activities.
• Prepares and maintains required reports and documentation.
• Speaks before groups, answers inquiries regarding environmental rural area cleanup enforcement, environmental issues and wildcat dumping programs and activities and conducts public information programs.
• Attends routine and specialized training classes and seminars of law enforcement methods and techniques, marksmanship, law, procedures, and technical subjects.
• Communicates and acts in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
• Required certification as a law enforcement officer.
• One (1) year successful experience as a law enforcement officer.
• OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

• Safe operation and handling of a motor vehicle in adverse traffic conditions, weather, terrain, and high-speed driving.
• Give and receive orders, to follow instructions, and to work as a team member in a structured working environment.
• Comprehend, retain, and recall factual information.
• Protect the public and enforce the laws with due regard for the rights and safety of individuals, the preservation of property, and the maintenance of good community and interpersonal relationships in compliance with established laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
