Description

The City of Santa Fe Springs is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Human Resources Technician. The Human Resources Technician provides technical and administrative support of the Human Resources office various areas related to recruitment, selection, classification, compensation, employee and labor relations, and employee benefits.

Employment Status: Full-time, confidential position included in the Management and Confidential (MC) Bargaining Unit.

Work Schedule: 4/10 Schedule,Monday through Thursday. May work occasional extended hours, special events, and some weekends.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under direct supervision, provides entry level technical and administrative functions in support of the Human Resources department. Supports employee services and benefits administration, recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, and employee development and training.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives direct supervision from the Human Resources Manager and Deputy Director of Human Resources.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

B. Essential Job Specific Duties:
Communicates, explains, and interprets personnel policies, procedures, and processes to staff and the public; answers questions and provides information regarding hiring procedures, benefits, job descriptions, collective bargaining agreement, salary wages and steps, and related matters.
Assists in the facilitation and coordination of new employee orientations; explains employment benefits; enrolls new employees in HRIS system; prepares related documents. Processes reports, records, and forms required in the administration of the City’s benefit programs, including retirement, health, and other insurance programs; prepares related statistical reports. Prepares job bulletins, screens job applications; schedules and administers exams and notifies candidates of results; assists with Oral Boards. Assists with the implementation of City Training Programs, including developing training brochures, maintaining training calendars, registering, training, and assisting with preparation of event sites and course materials. Reviews and verifies reports to ensure information is correct, conducts training needs analyses, researches data to prepare reports, makes recommendations based on information researched, coordinates personnel related programs, and/or scores written examinations. Prepares, maintain and/or processes various personnel documents, files, and records; ensures accurate and timely distribution of human resources related documents and records; follows records retention procedures. Performs office administration duties and other administrative tasks as assigned; assists in updating and maintaining computerized personnel records.
C. Other Job Specific Duties:

Schedules interviews, training sessions, meetings, and appointments; maintains calendars. Develops a variety of personnel forms; tabulates information and prepares reports. Maintains a variety of logs and records related to department activities. Maintains various personnel records and files containing confidential information and materials. Opens and sorts mail; assists with events and projects as required. Performs related duties as required.
