Description
Position: Electrical Engineer FLSA: Exempt Department: Utilities - Electric Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday; position subject to after hours/overtime. Reports To: Director of Electric Utilities Positions Supervised: Electric Engineer Technician
Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer will plan, design, and coordinate the installation and maintenance of the City of Weatherford's electric distribution system.
Roles & Responsibilities
Reviews, designs, and provides feedback for residential, commercial, and subdivision construction permit requests.
Designs overhead and underground electric distribution circuits.
Coordinates and provides oversight for construction projects with developers, contractors, and City personnel.
Develops and maintains the maintenance program for the electric distribution system and electric substations.
Performs electric system analysis using electric system modeling software.
Performs system planning for the electric distribution system.
Performs system protection studies and determines protective relay settings.
Special projects include distribution automation (FLISR).
Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge in engineering design, analysis, and project management.
Knowledge in computer skills including AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and engineering analysis software.
Ability to read and interpret reports, records, blueprints, maps, gauges, dials, meters, and technical handbooks, including local, state, and federal regulations.
Ability to perform advanced mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Regular, reliable, and punctual levels of attendance are essential job functions and expectations of this position.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders up to 15 feet and climb in and out of workplace equipment.
Must be able to crawl, reach, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, and crouch when performing job duties.
Is required to be able to carry, balance, lift, push, pull, and reach equipment and material weighing up to 40 pounds.
Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely.
Environmental Conditions
Majority of work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled facility.
Work outdoors will be required in all types of weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
