*Subject to Change* ABOUT US Design & Construction's mission is to plan, design and construct building and ancillary facilities as well as parks in a manner that is consistent with City policies and that meets the goals and objectives of the various client departments. Projects include new construction, restorations and renovations. To further enhance the operation of its facilities, GSD established the Sustainable Growth division. This division is responsible for implementing green and sustainable property and energy management solutions with the intent of reducing operating costs and improving client satisfaction.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The General Services Department (GSD) is seeking a Project Manager to manage the design and construction of projects for the Parks Capital Program.
This position will be responsible for the following duties:- Assist with site analysis, developing project scope, schedule and budget for projects
- Procures, negotiates and manages design and construction contracts
- Reviews design drawings including landscape and irrigation plans
- Will drive to oversee construction
- Processes pay applications
- Coordinates and manages internal and external stakeholders
- Ensures completed project work meets the required obligation under the contract and provides routine project updates
- Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, primarily the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and contractor representatives
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. Will require driving to various locations to perform duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None
PREFERENCES PREFERENCES Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- A degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related field
- Licensed Landscape Architect
- Management experience in the design and construction industry
- Experience in park planning and park and landscape design and construction
- Construction Management experience
- Competitive Seal Proposal Procurement experience
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
