DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Houston Public Library (HPL) is seeking an energetic, flexible, team-oriented Librarian II with a passion for data analysis to be part of Statistics and Business Intelligence team to perform professional library work with analysis of library data from a variety of sources to identify trends and enhance library operations. The preferred candidate will have interest in gathering and interpreting data from a variety of sources and the ability to communicate statistical trends and analysis effectively.
The Librarian II (Librarian II) duties will include:The Librarian II (Data Librarian), will:
- Plans and implements data collection processes related to the library’s collection, services, programs, facilities, and operations.
- Using professional library experience to interpret library data using data visualization, data analysis, and statistical software including Excel, Power BI, and other business intelligence tools to interpret data and identify community needs and trends.
- Create reports, infographics, and guides based on trends.
- Compile data for state and other annual reports and produce monthly dashboards and regular reports as needed.
- Assess community needs and evaluate library programs and services to improve community relations.
- May supervise team members on the data team.
- Other duties as assigned will be performed.

WORKING CONDITIONS Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by American Library Association (ALA) and one (1) year of library experience.
OR Requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 18 hours toward a Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by ALA and two (2) years of library experience. A Master of Library Science degree must be completed within two (2) years from being hired into this classification.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid driver license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** Prefer applicants with; - Interest and knowledge in data analysis, business intelligence tools, infographics and dashboards.
- Ability to work independently and skilled at prioritization.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others;
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Knowledge of current versions of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Power BI, Sirsi Symphony; Blue Cloud Analytics;
- Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred.
