Job Description

SELECTED CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE IN CALIFORNIA.

The intent of this applicant pool for Associate Faculty is to identify a continuous list of qualified applicants who are interested in part-time teaching opportunities at Butte College. Submit an application if you think you might be interested, even if there is currently no vacancy for the discipline(s) you're interested in. Your application will be active for one (1) year from the application submission date. After that, you'll need to submit a new application to demonstrate continued interest in teaching opportunities.

Associate Faculty Vacancies

Applications for all other disciplines will be kept on file, and depending on departmental need, will be forwarded to the appropriate department chair upon their request. You must identify the discipline(s) in which you're seeking to be minimally qualified for on the application. Please do not put "any" or "n/a."

Placement on the salary schedule is dependent upon the discipline and qualifications. Initial salary placement for instructors teaching in a non-vocational area (discipline requires a master's degree) will be established according to degrees and accumulated units obtained after their degree awarded. Initial salary placement for instructors teaching in a vocational area (disciplines requiring expereince) will be based on a combination of education and work-related experience.

Associate Faculty may teach no more than a maximum load of 33.5% per primary term.

Instructional Associate Faculty Job Description

The following duties are representative of the duties normally required of a part-time Butte College instructor. Certain duties are common to the everyday operational needs of the College while other activities may be required on an as needed basis. All of the duties, however, are common requirements at various times for full-time instructional positions. The associate instructional faculty member is responsible for the following:

I. Teaching and Instruction

Teaches assigned courses at the days, times, and locations listed on the college schedule of classes.Provides organized delivery of instruction.Demonstrates appropriate mastery of subject matter and uses effective teaching practices.Is courteous to and approachable by students.Develops instructional content and lesson plans consistent with the requirements of the Course Outline of Record, including, but not limited to course content and learning outcomes.Communicates clear course expectations through a syllabus, including standards for assignments and grading that adhere to college, state, and federal requirements.Provides clear, timely, and fair student feedback.Grades and returns student assignments and tests in a reasonable period of time.Maintains accurate student rosters and submits final grades on time.Records and submits student learning outcomes assessments.Orders instructional materials, supplies, and textbooks within the timelines established by the college.Coordinates with Department Chair to synchronize course contents and methods with other faculty in the program/discipline as needed.

II. Other Responsibilities

Abides by College policies and procedures.Meets deadlines for adds, drops, census rosters, grade submission, and all other instructional-related tasks with specific timelines for completion.Exercises good judgment in the use of and/or management of facilities, equipment and supplies. Attends required meetings.Works well with peers, classified staff, and administration.

VOCATIONAL AREAS / DISCIPLINES REQUIRING PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Work Experience Letters: For disciplines that do not require a master's degree, please attach letters from your employer verifying your related work experience. Please ensure the letter(s) note whether the experience was full-time or part-time. For part-time experience please be sure the letter(s) include the number of hours per week worked.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher - Attach letter(s) verifying 2 years of related full-time work experience.

  • Associate degree - Attach letter(s) verifying 6 years of related full-time work experience.



PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that they are free of active tuberculosis.

  • As a condition of employment, the District requires that you provide fingerprints prior to beginning work. You may be fingerprinted at Butte College Human Resources by appointment, or you may be fingerprinted at another agency. Should you be fingerprinted at another agency, the rolling fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility at the time of printing.

In 2011, Butte College became the first college to become 'grid positive,' meaning that the College had the capacity to generate enough electricity from its solar arrays to fully offset its electricity cost.

The College is home to 25,000 solar panels and has the ability to generate 6.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year or 4.5 megawatts DC – enough to power over 920 homes.
