Position DescriptionProvides assistance to the Pathologist in the preparation, dissection, and completion of work with autopsy and surgical specimens.
Major/Essential Functions- Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of routine and complex surgical specimens according to established laboratory protocols.
- Assist with or perform autopsies, including organ dissection, tissue preparation, and documentation of findings in collaboration with the Pathologist.
- Accurately document specimen descriptions, dissection findings, and case information in the laboratory information system.
- Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and workflow coordination to support timely and accurate case processing.
- Follow all laboratory safety, quality, regulatory, and compliance standards, including infection control and biohazard procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, work areas, and inventory of supplies to support daily operations.
Required QualificationsA Bachelor's degree from 4-year College or university plus 4 years related experience or combination of education and experience equal to 8 years. Certification as Pathology Assistant from NAACLS accredited training program will substitute for 2 years experience.
