Description
DescriptionUnder general supervision, performs specialized skilled work in the operation of motorized heavy equipment. Is responsible for operating equipment in construction, maintenance, and repair projects for the Utilities Department. May supervise maintenance personnel on assigned jobs. Reports to Utilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated)EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED: - High School or equivalent
- 2-3 years in the semi-skilled labor of construction or utilities maintenance and repair.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE: REQUIRED: - Possession of a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License ( CDL); with combination vehicle, tanker, and air brake endorsements as issued by the State of Florida.
- Must obtain Class "A" CDL within 18 months of employment
- Possession of a Class CWastewater Collections and FDEP Level 3 Water Distribution Licenses
- FDEP Level 2 Water Distribution or Class B Wastewater Collections Licenses; obtained within one (1) year of employment.
- Remaining Water or Wastewater License shall be obtained within 18 months of employment/appointment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Driver's license must not have been suspended within five (5) years of the date of this application (Not Insurance related).

Essential FunctionsOperates units of motorized heavy equipment involved in the construction and maintenance of areas around water and waste water treatment plants and lift stations, including, but not limited to, front end loader, street sweeper-roller, backhoe, heavy dump truck, side mower, and grader.
Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, grading, mowing, trimming, and removing brush and debris; installing and maintaining water and wastewater systems, utility underground crossings and aerial utility mains, service branches, hydrants, and sanitary sewers; replaces or raises meters and boxes.
Performs minor maintenance and related care of equipment used.
Transports materials and supplies to various work sites.
Locates water and waste water lines for contractors.
Attends courses, conferences and seminars to maintain current knowledge of trends in heavy equipment operation; may act as instructor at in-service training sessions.
Installs, maintains, repairs and replaces water and sewer lines and auxiliary fixtures such as hydrants, meters and valves. Repairs adjacent landscaping or roadways at completion of project.
Locates and exposes utility services in order to prevent damage to equipment and lines.
Reads blueprints and engineering schematics to locate water and sewer lines and fixtures. Checks water and sewer lines for breaks and infiltration through the use of flow meters, dye tests, smoke tests, etc.
Taps new water and sewer lines into existing lines.
May keep written documentation of work hours performed and materials used.
