POSITION Under close supervision, reliable delivery and mail service work by transporting books, library materials, mail, packages, boxes, messages, equipment, or supplies.

TASKS - Sorts, picks up, and distributes books, delivery boxes, documents, mail, and inter-office messages
- Transports equipment and supplies to various locations
- Maintains the appearance and cleanliness of the delivery vans;
- Assists in the moving and delivery of surplus materials;
- May assist with opening or closing the library and emptying book drops.
- Assists in maintaining the interior and exterior appearance of the library, including the collection of trash as necessary;
- May assist with special projects for the City, including printing, copying, folding, and cutting materials for mailing;
- Assists patrons with questions regarding personal information or change of address, fines, overdue items, lost cards, or application of new cards;
- Receives, inspects, codes, and prepares materials for an introduction to the Library collection;
- Collects fines for overdue books and materials;
- Registers Library applications and assigns Library card numbers;
- Tracks and maintains damaged materials;
- Distributes Library/community information orally and physically;
- Greets patrons and answers phone.
QUALIFICATIONS A high school diploma or equivalent,
AND six (6) months of experience managing deliveries or processing mail in a business environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess at the time of application and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a good driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS - Knowledge of the location of the various library branches, local schools, and the general Inglewood community; safe driving practices; work safety practices; and quality customer and time management techniques.
- Skilled in the safe use of a vehicle to pick up and deliver mail, following oral and written instructions utilizing proper English, performing essential job duties with minimum supervision, meeting deadlines, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships;
- Ability to drive delivery vehicles; receive and sort materials correctly and load a van in a logical pattern that expedites deliveries; understand oral and written instructions; use tact and courtesy in dealing with employees and the public;
- Proficient in using work-related computer applications, including email, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic devices, in performing essential job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is generally performed inside a library environment. Must be able to stand, sit, or remain in a stationary position for extended periods; move about inside and around the library; organize and arrange resources inside and outside of the library, including organizing books and other library resources on library shelves with a height of up to 6.5 feet; relocate and move carts weighing up to 150 pounds and boxes and bags weighing up to 50 pounds.
THE SELECTION PROCESS Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year.
