ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Administrative Services Department, Office of Risk Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Employee Benefits Technician position for Workers Compensation and FMLA or the Employee Benefits divisions. Operating as a vital member of our collaborative teams, the successful candidate will ensure excellent customer service, high-level data integrity, and strict compliance with applicable Nevada State and Federal laws.
Workers’ Compensation and FMLA: The Employee Benefits Technician will provide specialized employee benefits support to all County departments. The ideal candidate will have experience managing the FMLA process from request through case closure, while maintaining current knowledge of FMLA regulations and processes. This position requires experience using databases or case management systems to track and manage FMLA cases and related documentation, as well as the ability to assist with project-based initiatives that support departmental goals. This role also provides workers’ compensation support. The selected candidate must possess a strong understanding of claims management practices and procedures, including claim intake, investigation, documentation, and evaluation.
Employee Benefits: The Employee Benefits Technician will provide technical and specialized employee benefits support to various County departments. The ideal candidate will have experience with processing benefits changes in an automated payroll system, processing health plan documentation, handling protected health information (PHI), managing advanced health and voluntary benefit requests, and member support. Responsibilities of this position will include health, dental, vision, life, and voluntary related benefit programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in Business, Public Administration, Nursing, Insurance Administration, Healthcare or field related to work AND two (2) years of full-time experience supporting employee benefits programs including experience explaining policies and regulations and processing documents. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Provides assistance to employees and dependents, which requires the interpretation of complex employee benefit regulations, policies and procedures, to employees, retirees and others; may participate in and make presentations and provide information at employee orientation or other informational meetings.
- Processes employee benefit actions including filing of claims, enrollment and benefit changes; reviews documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with requirements.
- May make determination regarding benefit eligibility.
- Reconciles reporting discrepancies, maintains liaison with vendors, carriers and third party administrators and recommends when possible further investigation or action is required.
- Ensure actions are completed timely and in accordance with statutory, regularly and plan guidelines.
- Maintains logs, files and records of work activities; enters information into automated systems as required; may compile statistical or other reports regarding actions and benefits.
- Coordinates and performs a variety of general office administrative work, such as receiving and screening visitors and telephone calls, making appointments and setting-up meetings, typing or processing a variety of materials, establishing and maintaining files.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Uses a variety of standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
- May drive a personal or County motor vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation to attend off-site meetings and visit other County work sites.
