Definition

Come join the City of Newport Beach Harbor Department ! Our mission is to keep Newport Harbor clean, safe and well-enjoyed.

This position is responsible for patrolling the Newport Harbor to promote boater compliance with harbor codes, regulations, and ordinances; assisting the boating public by providing general information on harbor programs and services; and assisting boaters in securing moorings, collecting fees, and answering general questions; and other duties as needed. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future part- time and full-time vacancies as they occur.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of heavy customer service experience working in a harbor or marine environment, including experience operating a marine vessel. Experience in compliance and/or enforcement is highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. College-level coursework in marine science, seamanship, or a related field is desirable.

License/Certi ficate : Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required. Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of employment, a California Boater Card or equivalent. Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and PC 832 Arrest and Firearms Course certification within six months of employment.

$4,402.82 - $6,504.96 Monthly
