Mechanic Foreman
Description
Overview The Mechanic Foreman will manage personnel and repairs in a Heavy Equipment and Light Equipment mechanic shop. The shops are composed of Service Writers and Mechanics who specialize in various Mechanical Equipment Fields. This role communicates with vendors and City Departments regarding work to be performed, research pricing for parts and outside repair costs. The Foreman will attend meetings with upper management and City departments on repairs status. This position reports directly to the General Foreman with all personnel and mechanical repair issues.
Responsibilities • Plan and organize staff to ensure proper operations, repairs and maintenance to vehicle and equipment
• Supervise maintenance repairs by establishing work priorities
• Communicate with City Department personnel concerning repairs to department fleet
• Make periodic inspections of all equipment repairs
• Provide operational and technical updates to the General Foreman
• Oversee diagnosis of vehicles and equipment, supervise adjustments made to specifications
• Ensure mechanical work is performed within manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
• Provide proper training and direction while managing assigned staff to achieve the city's goal
• Oversee maintenance records of all equipment
• Develop maintenance requirements and schedules for equipment
• Monitor purchases of parts, tools and materials used for mechanical repairs
• Coordinate with Service Writers to obtain bids and quotes for vendor labor and repairs
• Facilitate sending vehicles and equipment to external repair shops
• Monitor and control external repair costs to ensure they remain within the approved budget
• Develop fair and equitable performance standards for subordinates and evaluate work performance
• Make selections for subordinate positions
• Notify General Foreman of any disciplinary actions required
• Inspect safety of shop and oversee implementation of safety or job sites
• Approve and monitor all actions required to ensure compliance with all Manufacturer specifications
• Maintain all professional and technical knowledge and skills required to keep the repairs shop productive
• Verify all mechanical licenses and certifications are current
• Other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Five (5) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
Within one (1) year of Employment • Class A commercial Driver's License with X Hazmat Endorsement

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
