The Department of Behavioral Health is recruiting for Licensed Vocational Nurses II, who prepare patients for procedures; assist medical staff with treatments and procedures; and provide health education, referrals and resources to patients. Duties include providing basic nursing care to patients; assisting physicians and registered nurses with a variety of procedures; conducting home visits to interview patients; and providing education and training for medical providers.

The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues. DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders. DBH also provides an array of outreach/engagement, prevention, and early intervention services. DBH's core values are service, integrity, accountability, and trust.

DBH is a unique County Department comprised of eight (8) direct service areas: Community Outpatient and Transitional Age Youth Services; Youth Collaborative and Justice Involved Services; Substance Use Disorder and Recovery Services; 24 Hour and Specialty Services; Adult Justice Involved and Diversion Services; Medical Services; Community Engagement and Equity Services; Office of Patients' Rights and five (5) indirect service areas: Administrative and Fiscal Services; Public Relations and Outreach Services; Program Support Services; Disaster and Safety Unit; and the Office of Compliance. The Department currently has a workforce in excess of 1500 positions and an approximate $800 million-dollar annual budget.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.

Licensure/Certification: All required licensure and certification must be obtained prior to employment start/hire date, and must be maintained through the duration of employment. Visit the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (CA BVNPT) website to view a list of approved providers that offer certification courses in IV Therapy/Blood Withdrawal which have been approved for LVN by the CA BVNPT.

BLS Certification**: Valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate (Course Completion Card) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be provided within 30 days of employment start/hire date, and must be maintained through the duration of employment. Contingent job offers may be made to candidates who have indicated that they have successfully completed the required Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) course, and are currently pending receipt of their AHA BLS Course Completion Card. Per AHA FAQ, AHA Training Centers must issue Course Completion Cards within 20 days of successful course completion. Please contact your AHA Instructor or Training Center Coordinator if you have any questions about your card. Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following:

License: Must possess a current Licensed Vocational Nurse license issued by the State of California.

Certification: Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. -OR- Six (6) months of full-time experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a behavioral health setting.

Desired Qualifications

Behavioral Health: Experience gained in a behavioral health setting is highly desirable.

Bilingual Skills: Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills is required to receive additional compensation.
