Nature of Work
This is general lifesaving work involving the preservation of safety and order at a municipal swimming pool.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

Watches children and adult swimmers and performs rescue, artificial respiration, and first aid when necessary.
Warns bathers against dangerous practices and keeps non-swimmers out of deep water.
Gives swimming instructions to children and adults.
Enforces rules and regulations regarding pool and locker room use in a tactful manner and otherwise maintains order in the pool area.
Keeps locker room and swimming areas clean and sanitary.
Assists with routine maintenance work.
Supervises all pool patrons including groups brought to the pool by school teachers or other Recreation Department personnel.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
Current Certification in American Heart C.P.R. or American Red Cross Community First Aide & Safety (includes CPR).
Current Certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid.
Current Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.
Maintain Certification as required by the Division.
Ability to work nights, weekends and/or holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Physical ability to effect pool rescues under difficult conditions.
Willingness and ability to participate in a training program in order to maintain proper physical fitness
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact .
Some sitting, standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and swimming.
For all positions:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Performs related work as required.

Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
For all technical, professional, supervisory and Managerial positions:

Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan.

Excellent retirement plan: pre-tax employee contribution added to the City's contribution; 5 year "cliff vesting."

Voluntary Benefits (fully paid by the employee, but payroll deductible): flexible spending account; 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, and Roth IRA; universal and critical life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care, and lump sum cancer policy. Also, U.S. Legal Services, tuition assistance, pre-tax payroll contributions, continuation of medical and dental coverage up to 18 months upon termination (COBRA).
